Good hiking trails

Lately I found a new hobby here in Germany and when we go for holiday to Virginia, I would like to know, if there are some good hiking trails in the aera around Richmond.

So does anybody know some short trails? (Short means up to 5 miles.)

I also would love to know about the trails that are best in Virginia. I love being with nature and hiking in mountains is one of my favorite activities. Could anyone please give some recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Have you tried Great Falls? Have you been there yet? It is fantastic and offers several trails that are good small hikes. I like the rocks and the falls, also. It's right on the Potomac River.
