Bigfoot in Virginia

Even before the Net I've heard stories while traveling about our state, be it at a campfire gathering with newly met friends or some Shenandoah Valley Tavern there have been tales of large hairy man-like creatures roaming not only in wild places, but in backyards as well.

Back in 93, three of us saw the backside of something large, dark and upright ambling out of our camp at Gathright during the pre-dawn hours. Couldn't really make out any features. What ever this thing was it rifled through our cookware and overturned a Weber charcoal grill, then unfastened a couple of dew cover snaps on our tent. Finally we got sick of being scared and popped our heads out of the doorflap just in time to see what ever it was sroll across the camproad and into forest shadows.

True we had a bellyfull of rare steak, beans and onions, along with a fair measure of homemade, aged in the cask, Shenandoah Valley grain whisky before turning in. Whooped it up abit so to speak. Yet we all did not see and smell the same Pink Elephant.

It left a stench about the area like terminal BO or rotten cabbage. As the ground was dry, hard, rocky and a fair amount of leaf litter, we found no spoor at daylight.
